You are here because you love your business, you want to grow your business, and you are excited about the opportunities that your business brings to you in helping you build the life you envision. You are also getting in your own way and are getting hung up on the sales process, especially now. If you are finding yourself getting stuck and paralyzed when it comes to sales, and feeling like you are doing something wrong, or being insensitive during this time, you are in the right place. After tuning in to this episode, you will have a reframed mindset and an understanding of how to refresh your approach and messaging in order to continue your momentum in growing your business.
Let’s cut to the chase.
The FEAR you are experiencing is about you…you’re afraid of how you sound, or what people are going to think. You’re hesitant to talk about money and you’re worried that you are going to be perceived as a slimy salesperson
Let’s go back to the beginning….WHY are you doing what you’re doing? I’m guessing there is a purpose behind it that fuels you and fires you up. Are you confident in what you are selling and the value that it can bring to people? If you keep it to yourself you aren’t helping anyone. There are people out there who are looking for and needing what you are selling. Not everyone though. Not everyone has the problem that you have a solution for, and that’s ok. And it’s also not personal. If they don’t need your product or service, it doesn’t mean that YOU aren’t good enough, or that they are rejecting YOU.
Sales are a necessary part of the business. Whatever business you’re in, you are in the business of people. Whatever it is that you’re selling there is a real person on the other end. Just like in any profession or role, you can have a few that ruin it for the rest. The slimy salesperson’s perspective is because there are people out there who don’t work with integrity, who don’t lead by adding value, and who aren’t genuine and accountable.
Typical sales training is all about the numbers game, the prospecting, the objections, and the list goes on…. Those things are important, yes, They are the brass tacks of the actual tasks that need to happen, BUT what are the things that make up the difference between the 80 and 20 percent… the difference between good and great?
It really comes down to mindset, messaging, and bringing YOU to the brand of whatever it is you’re selling. These things aren’t talked about enough, and this is really what makes you stand out and become a trusted, credible business leader. These three things are critical in creating genuine conversations and lasting relationships, resulting in business growth.
Three questions to ask yourself:
Let’s work a little mindset makeover here:
Now is not the time to stop selling. People still need or want what you have to offer. I do think there needs to be an acknowledgement of the situation, and messaging may need to change, but don’t stop.
How can you help your clients?
What challenges may be on their plate now, and how can you meet them where they are, in order to provide them a solution, or education, or helpful insight?
Do not feel that you need to completely discount your product or service just ‘because’. It is important that you uphold your credibility and the value of what you are selling. A couple ways to address cost challenges for your customers could be:
Those are ways you can meet people where they’re at.
Be very clear on your values and let those guide your decisions. Know that not everyone is a good customer. You may not be the right for them, nor are they for you. That’s ok. Your time is now freed up for those who are waiting for what you have to offer.
