Clarity of a general direction; it’s not exact. It’s a compass, not a roadmap.
You have a desire for MORE, but are unable to really define what that means…
- You feel a pull, a nagging towards something else. Something else that you were meant to do. The pull only gets stronger and is impossible to ignore.
- At the end of your life, when you are faced with the person that you could have been and you realize the impact you could have had, and what you could have done with your life… there wouldn’t be a much scarier and regretful experience than realizing that you are far from that full potential. We may never quite get ‘there’, but it is about being intentional about the pursuit, and the inevitable growth that will follow.
- ‘More’ can be in multiple areas.
- Being a more present mom
- Having more focus, and less overwhelm
- Being a business owner
- Being a healthy eater
- Being financially independent
- Being more fulfilled
- Taking up a hobby you always wanted to try, but something has always held you back.
We have all heard ‘take action’ before. Go after what you want, take the risks, make a pivot, chase after what makes you happy’. But what if the problem is that we aren’t clear on what that is? What is it that we want? We know we feel a nagging pull for more, but what does MORE even mean? Let’s back up a little bit and start with gaining some clarity around what more means for you. From there, we can put some tactical strategies in place that will help move you forward.
You are in the right place if you have a desire for more, but aren’t sure what that means. If you have ambitions for your life, but don’t know how to make sense of it all or what to do next, this exercise will help you get unstuck and will create ‘ah-ha’ moments to help you move forward.
We are going to go through a clarity exercise (grab your workbook here). Before going any further, we first need to address something that if we can’t get past, we will always be limited…the fear of what other people will think. When we go through these exercises below, do not take anyone else’s perceived opinions into consideration. This is about you.
Ok, so let’s get to this… We are going to go through a series of questions. This is meant to be a brainstorm session, with no limits.
A. Imagine your life in three years – Vision Exercise:
- Imagine scenes from everyday life
- What are you doing?
- Who is with you?
- How do you want to feel?
- What does your daily routine look like?
- This should be a brainstorm of no limits
B. Personal Core Values
- List 5 of your top core values
- These values reflect in everything you do.
- These things are what people think of you and come through in how people talk about you when you’re not around.
- These values equate to your personal brand and really become your reputation
- Values for inspiration can be found in my free Clarity Breakthrough workbook
C. What are your strengths?
- What are you really good at?
- What do people come to you for?
- What do others know you for? Or seek advice from you on?
- What would your family, friends, or co-workers say you do best?
- What comes easy to you?
D. What makes you come alive?
- What are you doing when you are in your element?
- What makes you feel the most energized?
- What parts of your role do you love?
- What did you love to do when you were little? There are clues there…
The magic spot is the intersection of your strengths and what makes you come alive.
Many times when we have a strength, we become the go-to person for that thing that we do so well. Even if we really enjoy it, we have to set boundaries around our time and our priorities. If everyone is coming to you for the thing that you do so well, it is still up to you to determine how that fits into your week or month as being aligned with your priorities go. Just something to note.
E. What would you do if money were no option, and you were certain to succeed?
- Be honest with yourself
- Let fear and self-doubt go out the window
- What are the ‘what-ifs’ you’ve thought about?
- Think about the ‘ultimate dream’. What does that look like for you?
- If money or any other factors were not an issue, it would be so fun to do ____. Or to be a ___
F. Through all of this… there is a driving factor. Your WHY. your why has to be greater than the obstacles that you are going to face, because you are not always going to feel like doing it. It is worth going through the exercises to make sure you are grounded in your why and that it is deep enough.
- You have started with a desire for more, and there are so many thoughts swirling around in your head, that it’s hard to make sense about what all of this means, or where to start.
- Start with identifying your ‘why’
- WHY do you have a desire for more?
- Your why is stronger than any fear or obstacle in your way. Your why is what makes you keep going when things get hard. Your why is your guide.

G. Now What!?
- Identify and journal word or themes that keep popping up
- Think outside of the box! Don’t think of TITLES right now.
- Research
- Talk to others who are in your circle who are either doing something you are intrigued about or fit some of the themes you have identified today, or use your network to see who may know someone that they could connect you with. People love talking about what they do and people also like to help. Think through what you want to know and prepare.
- Listen to podcasts, or audiobooks regularly that will help to trigger ideas.
- Hold yourself accountable by talking about your ideas with someone you trust, as you get these ah-ha moments. The more you talk about, the more you will realize that this is the right direction for you, or you will realize that it isn’t really what you want. And there is no shame in switching directions.
- Ultimately it’s up to you. External factors aren’t going to be what stops you….
